About Sweeney Todd

An infamous tale, Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to nineteenth-century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett's luck sharply shifts when Todd's thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up... and the carnage has only just begun!

J.R. Tucker High School

The Theatre Department at J.R. Tucker High School, known as the Shoestring Players, has been under the direction of Lisa Dyer for 20 years. Tucker's theatre department boasts nearly 170 students enrolled in curricular theatre classes and produces a full-scale musical and straight play each year.  The Shoestring Players also participate in the Virginia Theatre Association conference and Virginia High School League competition every year.  J.R. Tucker Theatre students devise original works as well as study classic theatre scripts. They learn theatre history, conduct research, hone performance and communication skills, and are an active part of the future of theatre.

The New York Times recently published an article that focused on how theatre kids run the world!  And, it's true that the creative freedom, emotional and academic support, as well as the opportunity to problem solve and work through the creative process in theatre help generate self-confident and capable adults.  It's the goal of the Theatre Department at J.R. Tucker High School to provide opportunities to participate in theatre to all interested students.  The value theatre has on the life of a student lasts far beyond their time in high school.  Thank you for supporting theatre in our public schools and the J.R. Tucker High School Shoestring Players!
