The Ooley is excited to have this ever evolving and rather famous show, The Vagina Monologues, hit the stage this year for the Women's Wit & Wisdom Festival. 

ABOUT THE PLAY:

The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler

The Vagina Monologues, by playwright and activist V (formerly Eve Ensler), is a groundbreaking play based on interviews with over 200 women, exploring female sexuality, abuse, and empowerment through humorous, poignant, and powerful stories. It launched the global V-Day movement to end violence against women and girls, becoming a cultural phenomenon performed worldwide and inspiring a grassroots activism campaign. The work is celebrated for giving voice to women's experiences, transforming shame into a celebration of the female body and sexuality. 

Origin:

Based on interviews Ensler conducted with women about their vaginas, fears, and desires. 

Content:

Features a series of monologues that are witty, outrageous, and deeply moving, covering topics from pleasure and fantasy to rape and abuse. 

Impact:

It sparked a global movement, V-Day, which uses the play as a catalyst for activism to end violence against women and girls. 

Themes:

Celebrates female sexuality, challenges taboos, and gives voice to survivors, transforming the "forbidden zone" into a symbol of power. 

Global reach:

Translated into over 48 languages and performed in more than 140 countries.

Welcome to The Ooley Theatre! We are founded by EMH Productions' executive creative director Elise Hodge with the intent of creating a non-profit space for live performing arts as well as workshops and much more! We are thrilled you are attending and participating in our 3rd Annual Women's Wit & Wisdom Theater Festival. There are a variety of productions all geared toward the feminine voice, to help raise funds for The Ooley's overhead for 2026. If you help us cover our yearly overhead, then others who come to perform at our space won't have to use their donations to their companies to rent our little home! This Multi-purpose Venue serves the community to provide live entertainment and workshops to benefit the public and its artists in the Sacramento and surrounding areas. We are a fan favorite now 3 years running since 2023!

Whether you are looking to go see a live show or looking to find a venue to perform in yourself, The Ooley is a favorite spot to shine at! 

From theatre to music to stand-up and even magicians we have a lot going on in this little space. We also LIVE STREAM from The Ooley Theatre offering those who are unable to simply attend in person for whatever reason a chance to still see a great live show. A 3 Camera State of the Art set-up is used to give you a feeling of really being right there in the room with us. We know many are now not comfortable in crowds of any size, or there are those who simply cannot get out any more and we think you are just as important as our in person crowd. Live Stream is offered on a variety of shows so check out the box office and see!
