About Kimberly Akimbo
Set in the wilds of suburban New Jersey, Kimberly Akimbo is a hilarious and heartrending play about a teenager with a rare condition causing her body to age faster than it should. When she and her family flee Secaucus under dubious circumstances, Kimberly is forced to reevaluate her life while contending with a hypochondriac mother, a rarely sober father, a scam-artist aunt, her own mortality and, most terrifying of all, the possibility of first love. Please note this is the play, and not the musical version of Kimberly Akimbo.

From the Director
David Lindsay-Abaire has a wonderful way of creating complicated characters with plots that challenge you in unique ways. Sometimes he writes a comedy that punches you in the feels by the end. Sometimes he writes a drama with some of the funniest moments you will see on stage. And sometimes it all coalesces into a perfect script like this. You will note a very minimalist approach to this production – which is both requested by Lindsay-Abaire in the script and the best way to serve such a script. Our goal is for you to focus on the words and the characters and nothing else. In doing so, we hope we have created a way for you to get into the lives of these five individuals – all facing various hardships (many self-inflicted) but all finding ways to push through them. That perseverance is a great guidebook for life.
