In The Heights Cast

Lorenzo Johnson (Usnavi)
Lorenzo is a junior at KCP. He has been in four of KIPP's productions, making this the fifth. He played Dromio of Syracuse in Comedy of Errors, Corny Collins in Hairspray, and an ensemble member in both Bring it On and Twelfth Night. Lorenzo is also a two-time scholarship recipient for the Broadway Dreams Musical Theatre Summer Intensive. Acting is more than an art for him. This is a plan. This is what he is counting on to help him make it out.
J'Niya White (Nina)
J’Niya White plays Nina Rosario. This her third production with KIPP DC College Prep. J’Niya also starred in Bring It On as Campbell and Hairspray as Little Inez. She is a member of the International Thespian Society and a two-time scholarship recipient for the Broadway Dreams Musical Theatre Summer Intensive. She would like to thank her family and friends for their support and her teachers who have helped her become a better actor and singer for her future.
Rontrell Haigler (Benny)
Rontrell is a junior at KCP. This is Rontrell’s second musical at KCP. He has previously been in other KCP productions such as Hairspray (Prudy, Officer, Mr. Pinky), Lion King (Mufasa, Older Simba), and Comedy of Errors (Dromio of Ephesus). He was also a member of the track and JV/Varsity football teams. He is excited to have the opportunity to learn what it’s like being a major role in a musical as Benny in “In The Heights.” Rontrell also was recently awarded a scholarship to the Broadway Dreams Musical Theatre Summer Intensive. He would like to thank all of the directors for helping and pushing him to be a better actor than he was before. PS Hey mom!
Delia Boney (Vanessa)
Delia is a sophomore at KCP. This is her first musical but she did perform as narrator Laura in Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors. She also played on the lacrosse team her 9th grade year and got an award for offensive MVP. Outside of school she dances on the Cast Of All Stars dance team that she has been deeply dedicated to for 4 years. She is known as a great dancer but she wants to show her friends and family the voice she has been hiding for many years. She wants to thank Ms. Schneeman, Ms. Miraglia, and Ms. West for pushing her to bring out another part of herself who she didn't know was there.
Destiny Fogle (Abuela Claudia)
Destiny is an 11th grader who has a passion for a lot of things - fashion, singing, dancing, cooking, and a lot more. She is a hard worker and a die-hard fan for musicals. Her favorite musical is Rent, but as she got to know about In the Heights she fell in love with it. She spends her free time with her friends either shopping, at the movies, or at each other's houses. She is very fun to be around. She is the last of 12 kids on her mother's side and the first girl on her father's. She tries her best every day to be her best self for her siblings and nieces and nephews. She thinks doing musicals and plays keeps her out of trouble and lets her know of all the opportunities that she has being a part of the In the Heights cast. She loves the opportunity and wishes for many more.
William Toland (Kevin Rosario)
William is a senior here at KCP. At KCP he played Doody in our production of Grease and Duke of Illyria in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. William is a member of the International Thespian Society. He is also a member of the Student Government Association, serving as their president.
Naima Smith (Camila Rosario)
Naima is a sophomore at KIPP DC College Prep. As a part of the Anime club and K-Pop club she loves to sing. Naima has also played Gertrude in Seussical the Musical. She would like to thank her family and friends for coming to support her.
Kenniya Corbett (Daniela)
Kenniya is in the 9th grade and has experience in dance, singing, acting and poetry. This is Kenniya’s first musical in high school and she is excited to get chosen as a lead role. During Broadway Dreams Weekend it was different for Kenniya. Different in a way where it taught her very important things like how to connect herself to her character in able to get into full character and much more! Kenniya plans to continue participating in musicals as well as plays and anything else related to theater and is grateful for the wonderful cast she is working with as well as the ones who support her and what she does.
Zerahia Wilson (Carla)
Zerahia is a senior and this is her final musical at KCP. She participated in all four years in our productions, Grease, Bring it On, Hairspray (Penny), and now In the Heights. This is her second principal role after being in the ensemble for two years. She really progressed and came out of her shell, even earning a scholarship last year to the Broadway Dreams Musical Theatre Summer Intensive. She wishes to pursue musical theatre in the future. She's put so much time and effort into musicals and is preparing herself for the real deal. She had so much fun in these productions and will miss it so much.
Ronnie Haigler III (Sonny)
Ronnie is a junior at KIPP DC College Preparatory. This is his first musical play at KCP. You'll probably remember him from The Comedy of Errors and The Souls of Black Folk. And now we are doing In the Heights. Ronnie is very talented and wishes to become a music producer in the future. Also, Ronnie was recently awarded a scholarship to the Broadway Dreams Musical Theatre Summer Intensive. He's really getting out of his shell this year and is going to sing his heart out to surprise his family and friends.
Sebastian Woods, Jr. (Piragua Guy)
Sebastian Woods is an outgoing senior at KIPP DC College Preparatory. You probably remember Sebastian as the astonishing Seaweed In KIPP DC's 2018 Production of Hairspray. Sebastian brings life and talent and when he acts he tells his story. His energy is put to use on stage as the Piragua Guy in “In The Heights” selling shaved ice to the neighborhood. Sebastian enjoys teaching and learning new choreography. Sebastian does anything to help his team. Sebastian is also a member of the International Thespian Society and was awarded a scholarship last year to the Broadway Dreams Summer Musical Theatre Intensive.
Jeremiah Hughes (Graffiti Pete, Dance Captain)
Jeremiah is a sophomore at KIPP DC College Prep. Jeremiah has been a part of Hairspray (ensemble), the winter showcase, and the pep rally at KCP. He is also a part of Network Teen.
Tylah Barber (Ensemble, Dance Captain)
Tylah is a junior at KIPP DC College Prep. Other roles at KCP include Bring it On and Hairspray. Tylah is an inaugural member of the International Thespian Society and has also been in Band Dance for her school and performed in The Lion King outside of school. Class of 2020!! Yay.
Brittany Ben (Ensemble)
Brittany is a junior at KIPP DC College Prep. Brittany has been a part of the winter showcase and the pep rally at KCP. Outside of KCP, she has played Molly in Annie Jr. She also is a part of Girls Inc. on Wednesdays. She finds enjoyment in cooking and wants to be a pediatrician.
Danielle Benson (Ensemble, Swing)
Danielle is a junior at KCP, but this isn’t her first rodeo. From High School Musical (Sharpay), Bring it On (Skylar), Romeo and Juliet (Tybalt), 2017 & 2018 Broadway Dreams showcases, to the wonderful production of Hairspray (Tracy), Danielle enjoys performing and hopes to make a career out of it in the future. Danielle is also the President of our International Thespian Society troupe. She wants to thank the cast, crew, and directors for allowing her to grow and share her talent.
Jalen Brooks (Ensemble)
Jalen is a senior at KCP. This is her first musical. She really enjoys dancing and can’t wait to show people. She is also a part of the K-pop club.
Nevaeh Champ (Ensemble)
Nevaeh is a junior at KIPP DC College Prep. She has been in three plays: Romeo & Juliet, Twelfth Night, and Comedy of Errors (Angelo). She has been in one musical (Hairspray) and is making it two by being in In the Heights. Nevaeh is part of the International Thespian Society because of her hard work in plays. Nevaeh enjoys acting because she gets to meet new people and be someone who she wouldn't normally be.
Reign Dixon-Goins (Benny u/s, Ensemble)
Reign is a sophomore at KCP and this is his third production. He was the Cat in the Hat in Seussical the Musical and a Council Member in Hairspray, both at KCP. He is a talented dancer and his singing is really good when he puts his mind to it. Reign is a caring person and always supports the cast. He would love to thank the people who supported him.
Scotty Hannon (Ensemble)
Scotty is a junior at KCP and is making his acting debut in the KCP theatre program with In the Heights. Scotty is also involved in the student government association and is happy that he is a part of the In the Heights cast. He would like to thank his mom and dad, and also the directors of the musical for working with us.
Miciah Harris (Ensemble)
Miciah is a sophomore at KCP and is making her theatre debut this year. Miciah loves all of the arts, and she has participated in many modeling and dance productions outside of school, as well as the BETTA production last year and Souls of Black Folk this year. She is also a member of the KCP Panther Elite dance team. She wishes to expand her theatre career and one day make it to the Broadway stage. She would like to thank her family for the continuous love and support.
Saunje' Harrison (Nina u/s, Ensemble)
Saunje' is a sophomore at KCP and has also been in Hairspray her ninth grade year playing one of the "Nicest Kids." During her musical theatre class she performed three different roles in Seussical the Musical. During middle school, she was in an honors orchestra group called Vivace and during 8th grade she was in TechBridge, an all-female science group. She will walk across that stage in 2021!
Taije Hill (Vanessa u/s, Ensemble)
Taije Hill is a junior at KCP. This is her third production for KCP. She has been in Bring it On (Ensemble), Comedy of Errors (Narrator Elizabeth), and In The Heights (Vanessa u/s, Ensemble). She also has been a team captain in lacrosse. She is happy to be back in the show business and would like to keep doing show business.
I'Kayla Johnson (Ensemble)
I'Kayla is a junior at KCP. She played Meta, a narrator, in KCP's production of Shakespeare's "A Comedy of Errors." She is a wonderful actress and she has skills like dancing, singing, and acting. I'Kayla now plays in "In the Heights" as a member of the ensemble. I'Kayla has worked very hard to achieve her goals and will continue to do so until she's ready to stop. I'Kayla has one more year at KCP and then she will be leaving to be a successful actress.
Alicia Musgrove (Camila u/s, Ensemble)
Alicia is a junior at KCP. She was previously in Hairspray as a member of the ensemble. Ever since then she has been in musical theatre programs. Love and thanks to her family and friends.
Maya Savoy (Carla u/s, Ensemble)
Maya is a junior at KIPP DC College Prep and this is her sixth production. Her credits include Friar Lawrence in Romeo & Juliet, Eva in Bring it On, Antonio in Twelfth Night, Sandy in Hairspray, and Adriana in Comedy of Errors. She also spends her time in National Honor Society, International Thespian Society, and the Student Government Association.
Elijah Singletary (Piragua Guy u/s, Ensemble)
Elijah is making his spring musical debut in KCP's production of the Broadway musical In the Heights. He recently played the officer in KCP's production of Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors. Elijah's dream is to star in the Broadway musical, The Lion King. He wants to say thank you to Schneeman, Miraglia, West, Agosto, and Phipps for helping his strive for his dream.
Jamaal Thompson (Usnavi u/s, José)
Jamaal is a senior at KCP performing in his second musical. In the Hairspray musical, Jamaal performed four roles: Mr. Spritzer, Principal, The Flasher, and a Motormouth Kid. He also performed as Antipholus of Ephesus in Shakespeare's "The Comedy of Errors." Jamaal played basketball (JV and Varsity) during his four years at KCP and even expanded to football for two years. Jamaal is currently co-president of the Student Government Association and former secretary. He is also a part of the National Honor Society and International Thespian Society. Despite all of these extracurriculars, Jamaal stays on top of his grades, recently obtaining a 4.70 GPA. Jamaal loves everyone and shows it every day in and out of school.
Javionne Williams (Kevin u/s, Ensemble)
Javionne is a junior at KIPP DC College Prep. Making his debut in In the Heights as a member of the ensemble, he was first the spotlight operator for Comedy of Errors. He is a great team player and a good spirit towards the theatre community.
Jerraun Williams (Sonny u/s, Ensemble)
Jerraun is a senior at KIPP DC College Preparatory who is determined to put on a show for everyone to enjoy. Jerraun was previously in the play Twelfth Night and was a police officer for the backup parts. He is currently in the process of graduating this year and is in his final musical of his time at KCP.
Markel Brown (Stage Crew)
Markel is a 10th grader at KCP and is helping out in his first KCP production.
Mya Brown (Assistant Stage Manager)
Mya is a sophomore at KCP. She's performed in the homecoming performance along with the winter showcase. Tenth grade year she joined the Student Government Association. During middle school she participated in Vivace, an honors orchestra, and TechBridge, an all-female science group.
Jamarr Lee (Assistant Stage Manager)
Jamarr is a junior at KCP. He has been a stage manager for three previous KCP productions, including Twelfth Night, Hairspray, and Comedy of Errors. Jamarr is also a member of the Student Government Association.
Lamore Smith (Assistant Stage Manager)
Lamore is a senior at KIPP DC College Prep. This is her first production she has been involved in. She is a part of the stage management crew. She loves the work it entails because it keeps her on her feet. She would love to thank everyone involved in her success. Let's go Class of 2019!!
