Before Hamilton reinvented musical theatre, its creator, superstar Lin-Manuel Miranda, wowed Broadway with In the Heights, a universal story celebrating New York’s Washington Heights, where the corner bodega coffee is sweet, neighbors’ windows stay open, and the air pulsates with salsa, soul and hip-hop. A charismatic storeowner, full of hope, dreams and a gift for storytelling, guides us through the lives of three generations who must choose between tradition and their future. Founded in 2014 by director Caity Schneeman, this is KCP Theatre's 7th production. Previous shows include Grease, Romeo & Juliet, Bring it On, Twelfth Night, Hairspray, and Comedy of Errors. The KCP spring musical is now an important school tradition that not only provides a safe space for our students but also consistently improves attendance, grades, and behavior. Partnerships with the Signature Theatre and the Broadway Dreams Foundation have provided master classes and scholarships for many KCP theatre students, and this fall KCP inducted our first students into the International Thespian Society, the world's oldest and most prestigious honor society for theatre students. Interested in getting involved with our program?
