About The Tempest - AAMU Homecoming
Alabama A&M University‘s Bulldog Bards bring the third annual Bard in the Yard to the Johnson Little Theatre in the Morrison Fine Arts Building during AAMU Homecoming this year at 3:30pm on October 10, 2024.
AAMU’s Bulldog Bards in the Yard production of The Tempest is a family-friendly 35-minute version on William Shakespeare’s final play. Original music using Shakespeare’s words has been written and arranged by the AAMU student cast. Our cast is led by AAMU and Oakwood Professor Dr. Willette Tate, in the role of Prospera. Dr. Tate is also an artist in residence at Lowe Mill. A synopsis: Prospera uses magic to conjure a storm to create a shipwreck using the powers of her spirit-servant Ariel to torment her family and a band of traitors who banished Prospera from her country 12 years ago. Prospera’s servant, Caliban, plots to have Prospera killed but his plot is thwarted by the ever-powerful spirit, Ariel. The play is about finding and giving forgiveness and the desire for power…with a sweet love story thrown in too!
This event is $10 for general admission and $5 for students. Run time is 35 minutes. Please stop by for our 35-minute production of The Tempest to enjoy the talents of our theatre artists at AAMU, then head out to all of the other homecoming activities planned!
