In attending a performance at the Department of Performing & Fine Arts (PFA) you will see the work of our dedicated musicians, singers, performers, designers, and technicians. Each student artist is practicing their craft in our learning laboratory, where hands-on learning takes place in a personal, supportive, collegial environment.

A New Devised Piece

Our season starts with “New Works, New Voices” where we produce a staged workshop or reading of either a commission of a new play to be developed with the playwright specifically for our campus or seek new work from professional playwrights.

This year, the cast of student devisers explore the history of UP itself in this new and innovative devised show, pushing the bounds of what traditional theater “must be”. The show guides audiences through different spots on campus, activating historic texts from UP Beacon articles, UP LOG entries, and much more, spanning the almost 125 years of life on The Bluff!

Audiences are asked to dress for the weather and to reach out to boxoffice@up.edu with any accessibility and mobility questions.

Four well-meaning theatre people are tasked with the creation of a Thanksgiving pageant for children that won’t ruffle any feathers. What could possibly go wrong? Playwright and MacArthur Fellow Larissa FastHorse, (the first female Indigenous playwright on Broadway!) guides us through a farcical roast of the politics of entertainment and political correctness alike. The Thanksgiving Play, which premiered in Portland at Artists Repertory Theater in 2018, puts the American origin story itself in the comedy-crosshairs.
