ABOUT HTC

The Highlander Theatre Company (HTC) is the resident theatre company of Somerville High School in Somerville, Massachusetts.

Our Mission

The mission of the Highlander Theatre Company at Somerville High School is to create and sustain a variety of opportunities for all students in the SHS community to participate in the creation, production, and performance of live theatre.

We commit to actively include our wider community, to uplift the contributions of diverse identities and experiences, and to create an inviting and joyful space to create and perform theatre.

Our Values

Belonging. We believe everyone belongs and has a space in theatre, whether onstage, backstage or in the audience. We share a collective responsibility to ensure that all who choose to be a part of theatre at Somerville High School feel a sense of belonging in our theatre community.

Joy. We believe theatre should be approachable and fun, because we create the most meaningful art through positive collaborative processes. We acknowledge the hard work and dedication that theatre requires while working to ensure that joy is embedded in every part of the process.

Dialogue. We believe open, honest communication matters, because sustained dialogue strengthens our community and our art. We strive to create and sustain a trusting rehearsal environment where new ideas can be considered with compassion, respect, and confidence.

Empowerment. We believe uplifting others uplifts us all. We actively seek to empower the voices and experiences of our community through the art of storytelling, especially the voices that have been suppressed by systems of oppression, or the experiences that have been historically underrepresented in the American theatre.
