About Arms and the Man

Arms and the Man is described by playwright George Bernard Shaw as “An anti-romantic comedy in three acts”. This hilarious satire tells the story of Raina Petkoff, a young and idealistic Bulgarian woman, and Captain Bluntschli, the Swiss mercenary who hides in her bedroom to escape the advancing Bulgarian army, which happens to be helmed by Raina's fiancé. What follows is a series of deeply human moments of connection and deeply ridiculous misunderstandings involving - among other things - chocolate creams, a borrowed overcoat, and a “scandalous” photograph.

Arms and the Man is directed by Emma Szuba & Rebecca Ashley Jones. It is produced by John Forlines III with generous support from the Forlines Family Theatre Studies Fund.
