About Anastasia

Anastasia the Musical is a captivating journey that blends historical events with legend, following the story of a young woman named Anya, who may be the lost Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia. Set against the backdrop of the Russian Revolution, Anya suffers from amnesia and has little memory of her past. She meets two con men, Dmitry and Vlad, who plan to pass her off as the real Anastasia to claim a reward from the Dowager Empress, the only surviving member of the Russian royal family, who now lives in Paris.

As Anya, Dmitry, and Vlad travel from St. Petersburg to Paris, Anya begins to regain fragments of her past, leading her to question her true identity. Along the way, they are pursued by a Soviet officer determined to eliminate any trace of the Romanov family. Through beautiful songs and stunning visuals, Anastasia the Musical tells a tale of courage, self-discovery, and the power of love. Anya's journey not only reveals her own past but also challenges her to choose between her old life and the new future she has come to cherish.

RiverTowne Players

RiverTowne Players is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to enriching and entertaining the residents of Eastern North Carolina by providing high-quality theatre. Our mission is to offer a platform for local actors, musicians, and artists to showcase their talents.

We are proud to call the historic Masonic Theatre our home. Originally opened in 1805, the Masonic Theatre was once the cultural heart of New Bern, hosting stage plays, talent benefits, concerts, and vaudeville acts. During the Civil War, it served as a Confederate arsenal and later as a hospital for Union soldiers. In 1917, it was converted into a motion picture theater, operating continuously until 1974, making it the nation's oldest continually operating theatre until its closure.

Today, the Masonic Theatre has been lovingly restored to its original purpose of live entertainment. Visitors can experience the unique ambiance of the oldest working theatre in the United States while enjoying a RiverTowne Players production.
