About URINETOWN: THE MUSICAL

A hilarious musical where a ban on the right to pee freely sparks a [dubious] revolution and an unlikely love story.

Set in a Gotham-like city, a 20-year drought has made water as valuable as gold. To maintain resources, the government enforces a draconian ban on private toilets. Citizens are forced to pay for "The Privilege to Pee" at public amenities managed by Urine Good Company, a malevolent monopoly run by the corrupt Caldwell B. Cladwell.

If citizens cannot afford the fees or try to relieve themselves in secret, they are arrested and banished to "Urinetown"—a mysterious place from which no one ever returns.

Tired of the oppressive fees and the suffering of the poor, an everyman named Bobby Strong leads his fellow citizens in a rebellion. Things get incredibly complicated when Bobby falls in love with Cladwell's idealistic daughter, Hope. The struggle escalates into a full-scale revolt as the underdogs demand free access to a basic human necessity.
