About The Dining Room
THE DINING ROOM is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Dramatists Play Service www.concordtheatricals.com
Set across one day (but hopping through different decades) in the dining room of a typical well-to-do household, The Dining Room is a mosaic of interrelated scenes – some funny, some touching, some rueful – which, taken together, create an in-depth portrait of a vanishing species: the upper-middle-class WASP. The actors change roles, personalities, and ages with virtuoso skill as they portray a wide variety of characters, from young boys to stern grandfathers, and from anxious teenage girls to doting mothers - but all their own individual. Each vignette introduces a new set of people and events: a father lectures his son on grammar and politics; a boy returns from boarding school to discover his mother’s infidelity; an aging mother struggles to recognize her own sons at Thanksgiving dinner; a daughter, her marriage a shambles, pleads futilely to return home. Dovetailing swiftly and smoothly, the varied scenes coalesce, ultimately, into a theatrical experience of exceptional range, compassionate humor and abundant humanity.
Plainfield Arts Community Theatre
The Mission of Plainfield Arts Community Theatre (PACT) is to provide the Plainfield area a safe, inclusive, educational, and nurturing environment to develop and share their theatrical and musical talents. We want to enhance the culture of Plainfield and increase the opportunity for artistic expression. As the parent organization of Playnfield Players, we are excited to bring theatrical shows to life in our community, including two productions of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, as well as through last July's Our Town - watch for more shows to come! PACT is also the parent organization for Plainfield Children's Theatre, who produces workshops and performances for student performers. They just finished their first full production, Shrek Jr., and last summer also featured their first workshop show, Willy Wonka Jr. Look for an announcement soon for their next project. Our Board of Directors consists of Erin Thomas, President; Susan Hohlman, Secretary; Carl Gilmore, Artistic Director; Brian Eckstein; and John Argoudelis.
