You are invited to join us for Lagniappe-Potpourri Presents the Freshman Sophomore Musical, “Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka”. New for the 2025-2026 school year, New Trier's Lagniappe-Potpourri student leadership board is producing the Freshman-Sophomore Musical, preserving its tradition of creative student leadership and providing authentic opportunities in the arts this year with a Broadway-style musical in collaboration with the adult production staff. The Lagniappe Student Board began working in May to produce, direct, choreograph, design, build, and perform this fun, family friendly production.
Based off of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Willy Wonka tells the story of the eccentric candy maker, Willy Wonka, who hosts a contest where five lucky children can win a tour of his mysterious factory and receive a lifetime supply of chocolate by finding a golden ticket hidden within Wonka’s famous candy bars. The story follows the impoverished, but kind-hearted Charlie Bucket and his Grandpa Joe, as they join the other four ticket winners-gluttonous Augustus Gloop, spoiled Veruca Salt, the gum-chewing Violet Beauregarde, and the screenager Mike Teavee-on Wonka’s magical tour.
“As sponsors, we couldn't be prouder of the Lagniappe Potpourri student leadership board,” says Carolyn Gerhardt and Matt Temple, Head Sponsors. “Wonka provides them with limitless creative outlets. From props to costumes to lighting and sound, directing and choreography, they have put their whole heart into this production. Speaking on behalf of the entire faculty mentorship team, this production will bring down the house.”
Student producers Julia Handelman and Charlotte Crocker add, “We are so proud of our amazing group of students who have put their hearts into this show. It is full of magic and is really wonderful to see.”
Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased at https://onthestage.tickets/new-trier-high-school. They are $12 General Admission tickets. This show runs 2 hours with a 15 minute intermission. There will be the use of theatrical haze and strobe effects.

New Trier High School's Performing Arts Division
New Trier's Performing Arts Division supports students in a variety of dance, music, and theatre programs outside of the school day. These activities provide opportunities for all students to explore their interests, meet and collaborate with their peers, and work with adult artists and educators in a nurturing and creative environment.
Students who participate in the Performing Arts are accountable under the Academic Eligibility Policy, the Extracurricular Code, and other policies included in the Student Guidebook. We encourage families to review the Student Guidebook, specifically Student Rights and Responsibilities, Extracurricular Program, and the Extracurricular Code in order to better understand the district policies as related to participation in all of our productions.
Performing Arts Division Philosophy
The unifying purpose of the Performing Arts Division is to support the goals and philosophies of the dance, music, and theatre programs and foster artistic growth for all students through performance opportunities outside the regular school day. Each Performing Arts Division experience is designed to:
- Create positive and collaborative environments that challenge and support students and their intellectual and emotional development
- Meet students at their existing skill level and provide opportunities for growth
- Support students as they balance their curricular, extracurricular, and personal commitments and interests
The Division is also dedicated to developing personal, performance, and leadership skills for participating students.
