About Fireball Gala Event

Fireball a play is based on the memoir Fireball co-written by Julia McMillan Walker and Hazel Lindsey.

Please note that this show might not be suitable for all audiences due to language and sensitive subject matter.

Hazel Lindsey, a Tennessee plowgirl who survived poverty, abuse, and eleven husbands, had only one year of formal education, but through determination, hard work, and keen intelligence she forged a remarkable life.  As a young girl, she plowed a mule and cut timber like a man, and she even built a house for her mother and siblings.  As an adult she owned her own restaurant, ran an upholstery shop, played guitar, sang, and buck-danced at country jubilees, and owned a huge flea market complex outside of Sweetwater, Tennessee.  She even had a small role in the film, OCTOBER SKY.

Fireball a Play is written by Norman McMillan, a member of the Main Street Players since 1972, is the author of DISTANT SON: AN ALABAMA BOYHOOD (a memoir), THE GOLD-PLATED SCARAB (a short story collection), and two additional plays, AGAINST A COPPER SKY (a one-man show about Truman Capote) and ASHES OF ROSES (based on stories of Alabama writer, Mary Ward Brown).  He is a retired English professor at the University of Montevallo

The memoir Fireball was co-written by Hazel Lindsey, and Julia McMillan Walker, who is a native Alabamian now living in rural Hale County.  She is a former public school teacher and a writer for a small publishing company in Georgia.  She is a sister to the FIREBALL playwright.
