About The Mousetrap
From the desk of Marty Fennewald, Director
I chose Agatha Christies’ “ The Mousetrap” for a variety of reasons. To start with I enjoy a good murder mystery. I have alway admired Agatha Christie for her unique ability to keep her stories fresh and suspenseful to the very end. Her stories are ripe with great characters, intrigue and fun surprises. I relish the opportunity to bring a good story to life on stage. As a director I enjoy the challenge of guiding a cast that must dig deep into characters with strong personalities, idiosyncrasies and multiple layers of emotions to make a story believable on stage. Working with a cast to ensure multiple plot twists, turns and teases are clear and easily followed by the audience is truly a labor of love. All of those challenges are found in an Agatha Christie play.
On a broader note, I also firmly believe that a healthy community theatre group should offer a wide variety of comedies, children’s stories, mysteries and musicals that appeal to audiences of all ages, generations and interests. Agatha Christie stories definitely offer the “mystery" part of that variety.
