About SPRING AWAKENING

Spring Awakening is the poignant rock musical adaptation of Frank Wedekind’s progressive and controversial play of the same title that at one time was banned in Germany. With a powerful book and lyrics by Steven Sater and music by Duncan Sheik, Spring Awakening presents an emotional and candid story of coming of age, identity, conformity, revolt, and self-discovery in a changing world. Set in 1891, when adults have all of the power, confident Melchior and naive Wendla fall into one-another's' arms, curious and passionate, while anxiety-ridden Moritz struggles to fulfill the strict expectations of the world around him. Relying only on themselves for guidance, this collection of young people pass through the fraught and rough paths of adolescence, discovering their urges, and developing their minds and their identities along the way. A vibrant and compelling celebration of energy and defiance, Spring Awakening’s characters, story and music are sure to have a lasting impact on all of who attend. Recommended for audience members age 13-and-up.
