"The Sonic Ukes" are a vibrant and harmonious ukulele group based on the enchanting Eastern Shore of Virginia. Founded in 2017, our group consists of five passionate players who share an unwavering love for the ukulele and a common desire to spread the joy of music to all corners of our community. We strive to challenge ourselves to push the boundaries of traditional ukulele music and experiment with different genres, infusing our repertoire with fresh arrangements, riffs and vocal harmonies. Virginia Ukapalooza offers an ideal platform for us to grow as musicians, expand our musical horizons, and make meaningful connections within the ukulele community...we look forward to seeing you!

Join us at ESO Arts Center for an unforgettable evening with Johnny Mo, The Musical Chef, whose talents extend far beyond the kitchen. Renowned for his culinary expertise, Johnny Mo is also the creative force behind 2 cookbooks, and well known for playing many original songs of which he has recorded on an album!. This award-winning artist captivates audiences by blending his passion for food with his love for music, often stepping out from behind the stove to entertain guests with live performances. Beyond his artistic endeavors, Johnny Mo is dedicated to giving back to the community. He plays a vital role in supporting the Food Bank Of The Eastern Shore, serving on the Advisory Board and founding the annual "Music For The Hungry" event, which has contributed over $100,000 to the cause. His commitment extends across Virginia, including the DC, MD, and Tidewater areas, through participation in numerous charitable events.
Heather + Nathan (Feb 15, 2025)
Heather and Nathan are a dynamic husband-and-wife musical duo who have been enchanting audiences on the Eastern Shore of Virginia for nearly three decades. Their journey began at Northampton High School in 1995, and they've been honing their craft and delighting fans ever since. Specializing in original songs that blend elements of "Bayside Rock and Roll" and "Seaside Acoustic R&B Folk," their unique sound captures the essence of various musical genres. Their diverse repertoire includes covers of artists ranging from Bob Dylan to Coldplay, The Kingston Trio to Rihanna, Stevie Wonder to Carrie Underwood, and The Grateful Dead to Lorde. Nathan humorously describes their style as "Down the Road Rhythm and Rock with a little Pop Blues Roll," while Heather emphasizes that their ultimate goal is to ensure everyone enjoys their performances. They particularly cherish playing at intimate venues like ESO's Studio Theater, which perfectly complements their acoustic act.
Swing Project (Mar 08, 2025)
Swing Project is a guitar-driven jazz band consisting of two guitars, upright bass, flute and vocals. Several band members are seasoned professional musicians, with a couple of talented amateurs thrown in for good measure. The band draws its inspiration from swing favorites such as “Lady Be Good,” “Pennies from Heaven,” “I Can't Give You Anything but Love,” and “All of Me.” After adding a handful of lesser-known gems along with a smattering of chanson, bossa nova, blues and boogie, Swing Project mixes it up and cooks. Pooh Johnston has written and performed in several original musicals that played in major cities around the country. He is ESO’s original guitar teacher and has performed at numerous ESO functions in the past. Pooh regularly performs with several music acts on the ESVA and is always happy to find himself gracing the stage at ESO.

Comprised of talented musicians Peg Volk, Scott and Melinda, Chris Chandler, Ellen Grimes, and Lynne Rogers, this vibrant ensemble brings a unique and electrifying energy to the stage with each performance. With their groovy rhythms, soulful vocals, and captivating stage presence, Corn Funk Revue has become a favorite among music lovers in the region. The soulful vocals of the group, mesmerizes audiences with her powerful song and engaging charisma. The talented instrumentalists, lay down funky basslines and groovy guitar riffs that get crowds moving and grooving. Ellen Grimes’ percussion, brings a dynamic and energetic beat to the mix, while Lynne Roger break out her flute and adds a touch of magic to the band's sound. Together, Corn Funk Revue delivers an unforgettable musical experience that keeps fans coming back for more.
