"Constitution Island is rich in beauty and American history. Evidence of Native Americans on the island goes back centuries. It was the site of the first fortifications built to defend American independence and was considered by George Washington the "key to the Continent" for its strategic role. At its heart stands the Warner House."
"The Warner sisters, Anna and Susan, were acclaimed authors, including the author of the beloved hymn, "Jesus Loves Me". The family lived in the home for close to 80 years in the 19th century; most of the furnishings are original to them. Tours of the beautiful island and well-preserved family home are available on several Saturdays throughout the summer."
