About The Taming of the Shrew

Kate has no patience for suitors—and even less for the rules that say she must marry before her younger sister can. Armed with wit, fury, and the occasional fist, she’s kept every match at bay.

Until Petruchio arrives, eager for the challenge.

In this battle of wills, who ends up transformed?

Set on the lawn in the afternoon sun, this free performance of THE TAMING OF THE SHREW digs into the play’s charged themes with humor, invention, and Boomerang’s trademark sense of adventure. Expect sharp banter, bold reinterpretation, and the thrill of live theatre unfolding against the backdrop of the city. Perfect for families, Shakespeare fans, and park-goers alike, this summertime tradition invites audiences to gather, laugh, and engage with a classic story in a fresh new light.

We take pride in creating world-class work that reflects the concerns, hopes and dreams of the community. Boomerang is committed to putting bold new work on stage, using a combination of dynamic new voices and re-examined classics. Our seasons have included rotating repertory, world premiere plays, new musicals, play readings and music/theater mash-up events. The company’s goal is to give the spotlight to a diverse group of creators. Seasons are artist-centric, reflecting the passions of the creative contributor as well as the always-changing cultural moment.

Boomerang occupies a unique space in the theatrical ecosystem of New York City. We are a creative home, allowing collaborators to take risks and make satisfying work. To accomplish this, Boomerang has become an Institutional Off-Off Broadway company, producing multiple ongoing projects such as Free Shakespeare outdoors, The First Flight New Play Festival, Rock-n-Roles, and our artist driven reading series, The Baton Project. These projects perform in intimate spaces, and cultivate audiences that yearn for performance that is dynamic and bold. Fiercely independent and fueled by our sustained excellence, Boomerang is one of the standard bearers for the Indie Theatre community.
