The magnificent novella by D. H. Lawrence explores the conflict between youthful desire and societal constraints. The story centers on Yvette, a young woman living in a stifling rectory dominated by her overbearing grandmother, aunt, and father. The narrative highlights Yvette's longing for freedom and passion, embodied by a gypsy man who represents a life of vitality and sensuality in stark contrast to the oppressive environment of her home. The gypsy’s arrival evokes Yvette's suppressed desires, leading her to fantasize about escaping her mundane existence.

The tension between the vibrant energy of the gypsy and the stagnant moral world of the rectory, invites us to reflect on the complexities of desire and identity, frustration and hope, fulfillment and loss. Exploring the nature of love, the impact of societal expectations and a family struggling to find it's footing in a changing world, is a perfect vehicle for Flamenco's intense passion, elegant power and exquisite expression of the human soul.

Ballet Flamenco La Rosa is dedicated to continuing Flamenco's rich legacy, while also creating original creative work to continue the art form's development. The company maintains and respects the complex and deep tradition of Flamenco's  roots, which are

multi-cultural and interdisciplinary, having been born in the multicultural society of Medieval Andalusia, Southern Spain, where Europeans, Arabs, Jews, Africans and Gypsies co-existed in a Golden Age of learning and culture which has become known as the "Convivencia".
