NEHI Viking Theatre

The Theatre Department at Northeast High school works to help students discover their strengths. Through independent and collaborative work, students learn creative problem solving, public speaking, and listening skills that help improve their achievement in all aspects of their lives.  The theatre community at Northeast gives students a place to call home and a safe space to learn and explore new ideas. Troupe 2914 is a family not only to current high school students, but also recent graduates and alumni of Northeast High School

The goal of ITS (International Thespian Society) is to foster a stronger community of young performers. The society aims to build up its members with award recognition, introducing a variety of performance opportunities, and to encourage experimentation in dramatics.

Why Should I be a Thespian? Through performance opportunities, students can not only learn the basics of theatre from a dramatic standpoint, but can also use these new learned skills in many other parts of life (think people skills!). Northeast participates in numerous events/ performances throughout the year to uphold the ideals of ITS such as The District IV Thespian Festival, The Florida State Thespian Festival, Broadway Star of the Future Reviews for our Mainstages, and more!

How will joining theater at Northeast help my individual strengths? At Northeast, it is extremely important to give all of our students opportunities to perform and shine on stage. We hold auditions for our One Act (performs at district IV thespian festival), our fall mainstage, our winter mainstage, and our spring show! Not to mention the many performance opportunities at thespian festivals! There are more than plenty of opportunities to go around, and we aim to help each student find their strengths!

I don't like performing on stage. Can I still join? YES! Northeast is ALWAYS looking for students who can help with running tech for the shows! Students who are in tech can participate in productions without the performance aspect of it! Tech roles can include Stage Managing, Sound, Lights, Costuming, Makeup, House manager, Ushering, and more! Don't know how to do it?  We'll teach you!! We also also have opportunities for those who are interested in directing and playwriting!

Classes: We offer many elective options, such as Theatre 1-4, Tech Theatre 1-4, Musical Theatre 1-3, Directing and Stage Management. Throughout the year, we have professional teaching artists from American Stage teach about theater history, playwriting, movement, and more. We also have online voice coaching with a professional!

Still not sure? Hear it from our students!

Mars Shuman (c/o '24)- To be a writer is to use your words to create stories. To be a writer at Northeast High School, and a part of Troupe 2914, means to be a part of a community that encourages one another and supports the stories we create as writers. Troupe 2914 is a family before anything else, and I have grown immensely as a playwright and as a part of this troupe.

Rachel Bender (c/o '23)- I love theater- I get to feel like a star and learn real star qualities. Mrs. Engle has always worked with me and accommodated for my disabilities throughout my four years at Northeast. I really felt like I got the same chance as anyone else on stage and was able to gain so much knowledge I will always be grateful for.

Rammy Darwish (c/o ‘24)- Theater is an extremely welcoming place for people who are lost. It’s filled with talented and positive individuals that will impact your high school experience for the better!

2024-2025 Season: Northeast High School is proud to present two mainstage productions: Lost Girl and an undecided Spring Musical!
