What is nmhs theatre?
Our History
New Milford High School Theatre has been producing high quality theatrical productions for over forty years!
From 1982 to 2017, the theatre program was directed by New Milford High School chorus teacher, Bob Keck, who, along with is team of dedicated staff and talented students over many years, built the program into the what it is today. The “All-School Musical,” as it was named, became a tradition that the New Milford community would look forward to seeing every March.
In 2018, Alessandro Amenta, current English and Video Production teacher at NMHS, became the new director of the program, following Mr. Keck's retirement. With new staff members and students driven to keep the “All-School Musical” legacy alive, the program continued to delight audiences with a wonderful musical production each March until the COVID-19 pandemic caused schools all over the country to shut down. As a result, New Milford High School was not able to put on a live musical for the first time in decades.
In 2021, our program came back stronger and with a new sense of purpose. Now, the program would also produce a play, in addition to the musical, each year to give students more opportunities to participate in full-scale theatrical productions and learn how to develop their skills and areas of interest. And so, program changed its name to New Milford High School Theatre to reflect this new commitment to theatre education. Our first play and first live production after COVID-19 was Almost, Maine and since then, we have been honored to be able to produce two theatrical productions for our school and community each year. We hope to see you at our next performance!
