ABOUT DCFA THEATRE

WHAT IS DCFA THEATRE?

The DeKalb County Fine Arts Theatre (DCFA Theatre for short) is a theatre class open to all DeKalb County students in grades 9-12! Students sign up for the class by speaking with their counselors at their home school. Once signed up, students ride the “tech bus” daily to the DeKalb County Technology Center (The Tech School) to take an 80-minute theatre class.

WHAT DO YOU LEARN IN THE CLASS?

Students learn everything there is to know about theatre in a fun, active, and engaging way! We study Acting, Singing, Dancing, Greek Theatre, Improvisation, Commedia dell'Arte, Shakespearean Theatre, Script Analysis, Musical Theatre, Playwriting, Theatrical Makeup techniques, and so much more!

HOW MANY SHOWS DO YOU PUT ON?

DCFA Theatre puts on two full productions a year. These productions rehearse after school and allow students to put the things they've learned to work. These shows are entirely student-run, meaning all of the actors, stage managers, lighting operators, sound engineers, and stage crew are all students! So even if the idea of being on stage scares you, there's so much more you can do in the theatre besides acting on stage. You do not have to be in the theatre class to be part of the productions, but the class certainly prepares you for success.

WHAT ELSE DO YOU DO?

Students in the class go on two field trips a year. These field trips include things like backstage tours at college and professional theatre companies, watching professional theatre, participating in workshops, and even watching broadway touring productions! Not only are these field trips loads of fun, but they are also incredible learning opportunities for all students.
