About Us

Community Players Theatre is the creative drama ministry of Community Lutheran Church in Escondido, California. We are passionate about sharing the love of Jesus while using our God-given gifts in a performing arts community. We are a theatre of encouragement, growth, and grace! Our Christian values are reflected in our choice of shows, and you'll find that our cast members are friendly and encouraging of one another!

Founded in 2008, Community Players Theatre was the brainchild of Christopher Ryan, Pastor William Vogelsang, and Donna Hinke. The success of our first show, Our Town, encouraged the church as a whole to continue supporting this new endeavor. Over seventeen years later, and we're still going!

Get Involved!

We are open to anyone who wants to join - all ages, all talent levels, any experience (or none). One of our guiding principles is that we will never make our actors pay to participate. There are no fees to audition, and we do not require actors to sell a ticket quota. Because most of our volunteers have day jobs (or are in school!), rehearsals usually take place weekday evenings or Saturday mornings. As a matter of safety, we do require all adults (18+) to undergo a basic background check whenever minors are involved in a production.

In addition to our straight plays and musicals, we produce an annual Musical Revue (our “Night on Broadway”) in the Spring or Fall, and Improv shows during the Summer. Whether you want to be on the stage or behind it, we'd love to have you.

Volunteer Opportunities Include:

  • Sound Management
  • Lighting Management
  • Costume Design/Production
  • Stage Management
  • Set Design/Construction
  • Actors and Actresses
  • Directing
  • And More…
