About Shirley Valentine

We are so very thrilled to bring this wonderfully iconic play to The Ooley Theatre! I am especially excited to be playing the role of Shirley Valentine. Join me, Elise, on this adventure!

Shirley Valentine is an extraordinary woman, trapped in an ordinary life now that her children are grown-ish and her husband has fallen into mundane routines and banal conversation. She finds herself longing for just a little more than the mediocrity she has been living for too long. The chance of her lifetime comes along in the form of a trip to Greece, where she discovers who she truly wants to be. But will she be brave enough to embrace herself and take the leap of a lifetime?

This play brought about much harsh criticism by men especially and much love by women as Shirley voices something that was so needed in the 1980s: Women have the right to be who they are in their hearts. The role was originated by Pauline Collins on Broadway and later on she played the role in the film version. I saw this version first, not realizing it was a play. Once I discovered this show, I knew I wanted to share Shirley with you, our audience. I hope you find her as fun, funny, heartwarming, poignant and fearless as I have. Enjoy the show!

EMH Productions and The Artist's Collective:

2023 will be the 11th year for EMH Productions to bring thought provoking, intimate and unique stories to life. EMH Productions supports the art of acting, directing, producing and writing through live theatre productions, film, TV and casting.  The mission is to provide an arena that artists in this industry can network, grow their craft and find support to achieve their goals. Bring me your dream project as a producer, writer, director or actor and let's see what we can do together to bring it to fruition!  Success awaits!

Join the newest venture from EMH, The Artist's Collective. This is a wonderfully talented group of professional artists who are working towards their individual dreams, while lending support to one another along the way. It is home to The Writer's Room, where local playwrights and screenwriters meet up to share their work, get constructive feedback and become produced for the stage or screen.

The Writer's Room at EMH and The Artist's Collective

Writers are the backbone of the entire entertainment industry. Without our stories, there would be no reason to have producers, directors, actors, and crew. We are what begin the whole process of bringing to life the world we want to see on stage or on the screen.
